The Institute publishes a new essay on Michael Servetus

The
Michael Servetus Institute has just published a Spanish/English
Bilingual edition of the essay by Dr. Ana Gómez Rabal: De
Trinitatis Erroribus: A Philological Approach to Michael Servetus.
This essay points out that Servetus was very aware of the
relevance of philological interpretation of the holy texts
in the construction of his own theological system and, therefore,
he frequently relied on syntactic and morphological explanations
to support his statements. As Dr. Pere Quetglas, professor
of Latin Philology at the University of Barcelona (UB), states
in his foreword to the essay, “what Dr. Gómez Rabal is going
to offer us in this essay is a whole series of original discoveries
about the philological features of the works of Servetus taken
from her doctoral thesis. They are at times minute and detailed
observations, always interesting, which announce the presence
of a wise philologist, also perfectly capable of offering
a global vision of Servetus, and of doing so in an attractive
manner.”
Ana Gómez Rabal graduated from the University of Barcelona
with a degree in Classic Philology in 1992. She has worked
in the publishing industry as a translator, fundamentally
into Latin, and as an editor. In 2003 she obtained her PhD
in Classic Philology also in the University of Barcelona where
she presented her thesis on the philological aspects of Servetus’
first theological works under the supervision of Dr Pere Quetglas.
Her thesis has been partially published in Volume II of the
Complete Works of Michael Servetus edited by Dr Alcala (Larumbe
ed.) (Zaragoza, 2004). At the moment, she works as a researcher
in the Milá and Fontanals Institute, an entity which belongs
to the Spanish High Research Council (Consejo Superior de
Investigaciones Científicas de España) in Barcelona (Spain).
